GHOSTUBUSTER 3: Dan Aykroyd Hints Bill Murray Could Be Replaced

Even more intriguingly, Aykroyd hinted that Bill Murray may not return as Peter Venkman, and that the character could be played by a different actor, a la Jack Ryan.

Besides addressing Murray, Aykroyd was asked about the reclusive Rick Moranis, who had a major part in the original, but was left to babysitting duties in the second. “If we can get the script to Ghostbusters 3 right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component. None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant.”

Just in case any one thought Ghostbusters 3 was still a good idea.

Obviously a Ghostbusters 3 without Bill Murray would be blasphemy, but I’m of the opinion that any new Ghostbusters movie would be a horrible idea. Too much time as passed, and the temptation of Hollywood producers to cram bankable stars into the roles over genuine comedic talent would ruin things.
I’ve long thought that the best way to revisit Ghostbusters is on the small screen. The whole concept just lends itself really well to episodic adventures. And the original film hinted at the idea of franchising the venture, making it possible to present a new Ghostbusters crew without sullying the original.
I’d make the lead Peter Venkman’s daughter who joins the NYC Ghostbusters as a rookie to investigate why her father and the rest of the original Ghostbusters vanished several years ago. Since then the company has been taken over by shadowy figures who may or may not have been involved in their disappearance. The show would be a mix of “ghost of the week” stories and the over arcing plot about the missing Ghostbusters.
Come on, how does AMC not green light a Ghostbusters show?

Welcome to '... like the appliance', a collection of random thoughts from Anton Blender. Mostly about pop culture, a lot on comic books and television.
