   I don’t post a lot of personal stuff to this blog, but I wanted to take a minute to congratulate my friend Brienne on being published this weekend in the New York Times. Brie is a freelance blogger whose work has appeared on the Huffington Post, MSN.com, and now twice in the travel section of the NYT. You can read her wonderful piece on her trip to Vietnam here.

   I first came across Brie’s blog about a year ago while searching for images from “Justified” to go with the season one review I was writing. After reading her hilarious review of the show I realized nothing I could write would top it, so I deleted my half-written post and started following her tumblr. Brie followed me back and we connected on twitter. Before long we were exchanging regular messages, comparing notes on the second season of “Justified” and complaining to each other about the new George R.R. Martin book.

   I’ve never actually met Brie, because she lives in Brooklyn and I do not (however, I have it on good authority from a Brooklynite friend who has met her that Brie is in fact as cool as she seems). But even though we haven’t met, I still consider her a real friend, and I’m very proud of her and happy she’s enjoying so much well-deserved success.
