Ann Nocenti is taking over as the writer on Green Arrow starting with issue 7, making her the fourth writer on the title so far (J.T. Krul wrote issues 1-3, and writers Keith Giffen and Dan Jurgens will write 4-6). I was optimistic when I saw DC was handing the title to someone new, but then I read her first interview. You can click the link above to read it yourself, but here are the big issues for me:
So basically if you’re hoping to see the title get back to where it was before the reboot, keep waiting.
DC has no idea what to do with this character. It’s like when Chuck Dixon took over in the 90s — he didn’t understand Ollie, and he didn’t know how to write Ollie, so he killed Ollie and replaced him with Connor (not complaining, I love Connor’s run on the title). Then they let Ollie rest for a few years before bringing him back.
Maybe that’s what needs to happen now. Not killing Ollie, just killing his title and letting him be a supporting character in the new DCU. No one at the company seems to understand what makes Oliver Queen tick, so maybe they should just put him on the shelf (except for the occasional appearance in Justice League) until a writer comes along who knows now to write him.
And you just KNOW that her version of Ollie is gonna be the one they decide to make a movie on. I’ll bring the torches....
*sigh* And here I was hoping to be excited over finally getting another female writer.
Im going to tear her a new one, ruining my fucking oliver queen. goddamniittttt D:
this sounds awful
I guess I should stop wasting my money on this title now. *Sighs*
Please be lies? I want Giffen.
oh boy… oh boy… oh boy… looks...first dropped reboot book
